Custom orthotics have long been one of the most effective and versatile tools in a podiatrist’s arsenal. Many painful foot, ankle, knee, hip, and back conditions are directly linked to structural and biomechanical flaws in the feet, so providing personalized support and repositioning for your feet can be extremely effective. The cost per use is minimal, but the results are immeasurable!
The team at Austin Foot and Ankle Specialists has extensively researched and tested the orthotics created by HP and Go 4-D’s FitStation and found them to be even more precise, comfortable and successful than traditional orthotics created from foam impressions or hand-cut materials. The new technology prints an unparalleled customized prescription for each of your feet.
After seeing the dramatic results our patients were getting from these orthotics, we’ve become convinced that they are one of the very best investments you can make if you’re suffering from pain caused by faulty foot and ankle biomechanics.
So to help our patients control the cost and eliminate the confusion so often present when dealing with custom orthotics and ever-changing insurance plans, we’ve created our own custom orthotics package. Now, it’s easier than ever to get great orthotics that are just right for you, setting you up for years of pain-free feet!

Orthotics Package In-Depth Review
Your doctor will carefully examine and diagnose any biomechanical instabilities you may have to determine if custom orthotics are right for you. This may include using digital radiographs or diagnostic ultrasound.
If custom orthotics are recommended, we’ll take high-definition scans of your foot structure and gait mechanics, including the precise way weight and pressure transfer across your feet while you walk. You can see the results on the screen at the same time the scans are being performed.
Feel free to ask questions! You might be amazed at what you didn’t know about your feet.
Two Pairs of Custom Orthotics
Once we’ve taken the scans and have all the information we need for each foot, we’ll send it off to the lab to have your custom orthotics made.
There are several different classes of orthotics available, including those for daily use, dress shoes, running, sports (soccer, cycling, golf, skiing), and added safety for diabetic feet. The 3D printed orthotics come in multiple widths (narrow, comfort, wide) and the thickness and density of the revolutionary lattice structure material can vary across different segment zones.
You can choose any two pairs that you would like—perhaps a “daily” pair and a second for your dress shoes, or your cycling cleats, or any other combination that you feel would be best for your feet and your lifestyle! (If you’re not sure what to choose, we’re happy to help you with some recommendations.)
Orthotics Dispensing Appointment
It will take about two weeks for the orthotics to come back from the lab and arrive at our office, at which time you’ll come back to receive them.
It is extremely important that you bring the shoes you are using your orthotics in with you to this appointment. Your doctor will help you fit your new orthotics in your shoes, making any minor adjustments that may be necessary to ensure optimal performance. We’ll also go over the break-in instructions and answer any questions you might have.
Follow-Up Appointments as Needed
Due to the precision of the digital scanners and the high quality of the orthotics, less than 10% of our patients require any further adjustments after their dispensing appointment.
However, if you do experience any discomfort or difficulty with wearing your orthotics, please make a follow-up appointment. It is extremely important that your orthotics are effective and comfortable, and we are more than happy to make any modifications that might be necessary. If the fit isn’t quite right, or your foot needs have shifted due to lifestyle changes, it’s important to make an adjustment.
Our custom orthotics package includes one covered orthotic adjustment appointment per year (for both pairs) after your orthotics are dispensed. We will also replace a single pair of orthotics for a minimum replacement charge of $200 one time if they are lost or damaged—life happens!
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the program cost?
The total cost of the program is $1,500. This covers the cost of the orthotics, the initial evaluation and dispensing appointments, and follow-up appointments as needed under the conditions described above.
Because it is a cash service, no co-pays will be charged or deductibles met.
Is this covered by insurance?
Individual insurance plans vary in terms of what they cover. Some cover orthotics fully or partially, and others don’t offer any coverage at all. Furthermore, with the ever-changing insurance market, more and more patients are realizing that meeting their deductible each year results in higher premiums the following year.
We strongly encourage you to call your insurance carrier prior to your initial evaluation and find out what they cover and what works best for you, your wallet, and your needs. Then, reach out to us with questions, particulars, or scenarios. Just like custom orthotics themselves, our custom orthotics package can be customized to best fit your situation.
Why can’t I just buy a pair of orthotics off the rack at a local store?
Although pharmacy and store racks may be filled with dozens of different orthotics to choose from, they are all created for average feet. Your feet aren’t average, and neither are anyone else’s! Each foot is unique, and each person uses their feet differently.
An off-the-rack pair of orthotics won’t be customized to your feet specifically, and you are purchasing them with an incomplete understanding of why your feet feel the way they do. As a result, they are frequently only partially effective at best, or may even do more harm than good—especially if your feet are further from “average,” or if your left and right feet have different needs.
I’ve made some lifestyle changes (put on or lost weight, changed shoe style or activities, etc.) and my orthotics are no longer comfortable. Do I need to start over from the beginning?
Not necessarily! The beauty of custom orthotics is that, unlike “off-the-rack” inserts, they can be molded, remolded, and adjusted to accommodate changing feet, bodies, activities, and needs.
If your orthotics are no longer feeling “right,” give us a call. We’ll get you back in the office to re-evaluate your needs and your orthotics.
What if I lose one orthotic from one pair and my dog eats the orthotic from another pair?
We will work with you to replace one pair of orthotics for a minimum replacement charge of $200.
I have a question that isn’t answered above.
